Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Tex., asked former senator Chuck Hagel some very tough questions in a Senate committee hearing Thursday. Sen. Hagel did a very good job dancing around them, and denying several things he said even after the clips of him saying them were played in the committee room where he was being questioned. I am proud of Sen. Cruz for not being afraid to confront him with the truth, and asking questions that should be answered. We need more senators with backbone, like Sen. Cruz. Hopefully, the Senate will reject Chuck Hagel, as it is very frightening that he may become the next Secretary of Defense.
What is interesting is I would respect Mr. Hagel more if he stood by his anti-Israel comments rather than try to shirk the responsibility for them as he did in this hearing.
ReplyDeleteDefinately. Funny how that is.
DeleteThis is an amazing clip! Amazing as in our Texas Senator is so cool! :) My Mom thinks it's neat too.
ReplyDeleteI love how Sen. Cruz doesn't bother with political correctness. That always produces the most candid answers.
DeleteThis makes me glad I worked on his campaign!
ReplyDeleteWe worked HARD on his campaign, Cliff! It would have been a shame if he became senator and messed everything up!
DeleteWow! I'm very happy to see Sen. Cruz standing up against Hagel. This is a great clip! Sen. Cruz is definitely an excellent Sen.
ReplyDeleteReferring to Hayden's post above, I might respect Sen. Chuck Hagel a little more if he stuck to what he said previously, too. It amazes me to see how he continually avoided every obstacle. I wouldn't say that he avoided those obstacles with much... class. I guess. :/
He danced a lot but he wasn't graceful about it. Sen. Hagel kept asking for context, even after he was given more than enough of it. I suppose he wanted a script of everything he's said over the past ten years? There is a point where there is so much background information it is impossible to take something out of context. There isn't much equivocation when someone says Israel has committed awful war crimes - to which Sen. Hagel said: "That is exactly right."
DeleteI don't want to be a "Bible thumper," so to speak - I like to use logic rather than simply reference the Bible; however, Scripture does say that we are to let our yes be yes and our no be no. We need more of that in Washington, D.C., not more ambiguity.
